VOLUNTEERING

‘Torbay Culture Ambassadors’

We supported the development of this approach to cultural volunteering with a group of local people who were passionate and positive supporters of Torbay’s cultural life, events and projects in Brixham, Paignton and Torquay. With support from the Great Place Scheme (2017-20) we supported people participating in this way, and host organisations offering volunteering opportunities. As part of this we prepared a range of resources, including a volunteer toolkit.

With the conclusion of the funding, it was not possible to continue this scheme. However, our colleagues at the International Agatha Christie Festival often have call-outs for festival volunteers.

You could be helping facilitate school visits, delivering sessions to school children or helping out with crafts and other activities during school holidays.

This volunteering opportunity would suit someone who is reliable and confident. Full training is provided, no experience is necessary, just your enthusiasm and time. All learning volunteers will require a DBS check, provided by Brixham Heritage Museum.

Craft Volunteer: Brixham Heritage Museum is seeking volunteers with a crafty flair to assist with craft sessions. An enjoyment of creative pursuits is an advantage, but more important is providing a cheerful and friendly experience for family visitors, to make them feel at home and welcome in the museum.

You will be helping to develop simple craft activities during term time and helping to deliver them in the holidays, typically one day per week of school holidays and on an ad-hoc basis in term time.

“I felt so welcomed by you all. I had the chance to perform, to be part of the team, to do something I’d never do usually. I really missed the days I wasn’t on duty. I don’t know what I’ll do when its over.”

”I am proud of myself for trying something new and embracing the unknown. It has been an enriching and positive experience for me being asked questions about The Tale and my role as a Torbay cultural volunteer”
