Torbay Culture's New Chair

Torbay Culture's New Chair

Jacob Brandon became the Chair of Torbay Culture in March. He brings to the role a wealth of knowledge about culture and Torbay. Jacob is a Creative Consultant with Artizan Gallery, in Torquay where he oversees the annual exhibition programme and engagement with local artists. He studied English Literature at the University of Bristol, and although he hadn’t planned to return to Torbay, found himself back in the area, enjoying everything it has to offer, and making a valuable contribution to culture in the Bay. Jacob’s previous experience includes working backstage at the Princess Theatre and a range of roles in theatre and film production.

Jacob wants to ensure that there is a strong future for Torbay Culture building on the great legacy that’s already been created with Eyeview, the Shorely and the Culture Club – a monthly social event at the Lucky 7 Club to meet, have conversations and exchange ideas with people involved in Torbay's creative and cultural scene.

Jacob says:
“A brief migration away from the Bay opened my eyes to our potential as a destination for cultural tourism, with an exceptional quality arts and heritage offer and stunning coastal scenery. Through my work with the Board, I hope to share this revelation with other residents and encourage pride and innovative thought in the place we live.”

Torbay Culture Board members are residents in the Bay who impart knowledge and skills from the creative sector, arts, health, education, architecture, sport and young people.  They are all committed to the cultural sector and culture's contribution to life in Torbay, ensuring that Torbay's ten-year cultural strategy is not only driven forward, achieving what it has set out to do, but also contributes towards a prosperous future for Torbay.
